Default When is it a good idea to go all-in when playing no limit hold em poker?

Ive just recently started playing poker online, playing at low stakes. One of the things I don't really understand is going all in. I know that it means betting your whole chip stack. When is it a good idea to do so though? I've seen people go all-in before the flop and don't really understand why they do that.

When you play free poker you will see alot of all-in's just because its free poker. I would only do it if you have the best hand possible after you see the flop or if you wanna try to bluff someone. I would suggest that you read some books on good poker play
