Default What lessons can we learn from playing No-Limit Holdem Poker?

Is Holdem Poker just a meaningless gambling game or are there valuable lessons that we can learn from it and use it in real life?

Here are some that immediately come to mind:Pick your battlesIf you must take a risk, make it an intelligent riskHave reasons for your actionsDon't ever let irrational fear cloud your decision makingDon't be cockyAlways study and get to know your competitionSay no to questionable opportunities so that you can pour your resources into the really great opportunitiesSometimes we can make the right decision but get the wrong resultSometimes we can make the wrong decision but get the right resultIf you are going down, go down swingingIt isn't the cards you are dealt but how you play the cardsCircumstances will rarely be perfect but still we must move forwardJust keep making the right decisions and let the results take care of themselvesThe greatest risk is not taking onePlay not to minimize risk but to maximize profitMaster your emotions or they will master youThe sad thing is some people haven't learned these lessons outside of poker so even if they familiarize themselves with the game they are incapable of seeing its valuable lessons that can enhance their lives.
